Privacy policy

Your household information deserves careful treatment.

This policy explains what information Plenji collects, why we use it, and the choices available to you.

Last updated: October 16, 2026

Plenji LLC ("Plenji," "we," "us," or "our") respects your privacy.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, retain, and protect information when you use Plenji's websites, mobile applications, software, products, and related services, collectively referred to as the "Services." It also describes choices and rights that may be available to you regarding your personal information.

By using the Services, you acknowledge the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising.

1. Information we collect

The information we collect depends on how you use Plenji and which features you choose to use.

Account information

When you create or manage a Plenji account, we may collect information such as:

  • your name;
  • email address;
  • account identifiers;
  • authentication information;
  • household membership and account role;
  • subscription status;
  • communications preferences; and
  • which version of our Terms of Service and this Privacy Policy you accepted, and when.

If you sign in using a third-party authentication provider, such as Apple or Google, we may receive information that the provider makes available to us according to your settings with that provider. We do not receive your Apple or Google account password.

Household and inventory information

Plenji is designed to organize household products and inventory. As a result, we may collect information that you or members of your household provide about your household and its contents, including:

  • products kept in your household;
  • quantities and estimated amounts remaining;
  • shopping-list information;
  • products marked as low, used, discarded, or purchased;
  • product categories;
  • purchase information;
  • expiration, best-by, use-by, or similar dates;
  • household addresses, locations, and storage areas;
  • the stores where your household shops;
  • household membership;
  • inventory history;
  • activity history; and
  • other information you choose to store through the Services.

This information may reveal household purchasing and consumption patterns. Because the products in a home can include medicines, health products, baby products, or foods related to a diet or condition, your inventory and shopping lists may indirectly reveal information related to health. We use this information only to provide the Services described in this policy, never for advertising, and we do not use it to draw conclusions about anyone's health.

Shopping trips

When you use the app while shopping, we may collect the store you are shopping at, when the trip started and finished, what you put in your cart, and any prices, sale information, or multi-buy deals you enter. We use this to keep your shopping list up to date, to know what to put away when you get home, and to help you compare prices over time.

Product information and barcode data

When you scan, enter, or identify a product, we may collect information such as:

  • UPCs, barcodes, and other product identifiers;
  • product names;
  • brands;
  • categories;
  • package types;
  • sizes and quantities;
  • product descriptions;
  • ingredients or other label information;
  • manufacturer information;
  • user-submitted corrections;
  • product reports; and
  • other product attributes.

Some of this information may become part of Plenji's shared product catalog as described below.

Photos and images

If you choose to use features involving photographs, we may collect images you submit through the Services, at home or while shopping in a store. These may include photographs of:

  • products;
  • product packaging;
  • labels;
  • barcodes;
  • receipts;
  • shelves or storage areas; and
  • other household items.

We may process these images to identify products, extract information, improve product records, remove backgrounds, enhance image quality, detect duplicate records, or provide other Plenji functionality.

You should avoid including people, confidential documents, financial information, medical information, government identification, private correspondence, or other sensitive information in images submitted to Plenji unless a feature specifically requests that information.

Information about your use of Plenji

We may automatically collect technical and usage information when you interact with the Services, including:

  • Internet Protocol address;
  • device type;
  • operating system;
  • application version;
  • browser type;
  • device identifiers;
  • login activity;
  • pages or screens viewed;
  • features used;
  • date and time of activity;
  • application performance information;
  • error and crash information;
  • security events; and
  • diagnostic information.

We use this information primarily to operate, secure, troubleshoot, analyze, and improve the Services.

Waitlist

If you join the Plenji waitlist, we collect your email address, when you joined, and how you found Plenji (such as the site that referred you or the campaign in the link you followed). We use your email address only to send launch and waitlist email you agreed to receive. Joining the waitlist does not create an account.

Communications with us

If you contact Plenji for support, report a problem, submit feedback, respond to a survey, or otherwise communicate with us, we may collect the contents of those communications and related contact information.

Subscription and transaction information

If you purchase a Plenji subscription, we may collect information concerning:

  • subscription type;
  • billing status;
  • transaction amount;
  • transaction date;
  • payment status;
  • limited payment-method information provided by our payment processor; and
  • related transaction identifiers.

Payments are processed by our payment processor. Plenji does not store complete payment-card numbers or card security codes on its own systems.

Information from third parties

We may receive information from third parties that help us provide the Services, including authentication providers, payment processors, analytics providers, cloud infrastructure providers, retailers or shopping services, product-information sources, artificial-intelligence providers, and other services you choose to connect with Plenji. The information received depends on the service involved and the permissions you provide.

2. How we use information

We may use personal information to:

  • create and maintain your account;
  • authenticate users;
  • provide household inventory functionality;
  • synchronize household information among authorized household members;
  • identify products;
  • process barcodes and images;
  • maintain shopping lists and record shopping trips;
  • suggest nearby stores;
  • provide product and expiration reminders;
  • provide notifications;
  • provide subscriptions and process payments;
  • respond to customer-support requests;
  • troubleshoot technical problems;
  • detect and prevent fraud, abuse, security incidents, and misuse;
  • enforce our Terms of Service;
  • understand how the Services are used;
  • improve user experience;
  • improve product identification;
  • maintain and improve the Plenji product catalog;
  • develop new features and services;
  • evaluate application performance;
  • conduct internal research and analytics;
  • comply with applicable law;
  • establish, exercise, or defend legal claims; and
  • otherwise operate and improve Plenji.

We limit our collection and use of personal information to information reasonably relevant to the purposes described in this Privacy Policy.

3. Product catalog contributions

An important function of Plenji is maintaining and improving a product catalog that can benefit multiple users. Information you submit about a consumer product may be used to create, correct, verify, or improve a product record in the Plenji catalog. This may include:

  • product names;
  • brands;
  • barcodes and UPCs;
  • sizes;
  • package types;
  • categories;
  • descriptions;
  • product attributes;
  • label information;
  • corrections;
  • product-focused photographs; and
  • information derived from product photographs.

For example, if you scan a product Plenji has not previously identified and provide a photograph of the package, Plenji may use that photograph and related information to create or improve a catalog record for that product.

Product-focused images may be cropped, resized, enhanced, corrected, background-removed, reformatted, analyzed using automated systems or artificial intelligence, or otherwise transformed for catalog and product-recognition purposes.

A product-focused image or resulting catalog image may be made available to other Plenji users after review, if we reasonably determine that it does not contain information identifying you or another individual.

Once product information has been incorporated into Plenji's shared product catalog, catalog information that does not identify you may remain in the catalog even if you later delete the original image, inventory entry, or your Plenji account. We do not display your name, account information, household information, or other personal identifiers as part of a shared product record.

4. Artificial intelligence and automated processing

Plenji may use artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, optical character recognition, and other automated technologies to:

  • identify products from barcodes and photographs;
  • match images to product records;
  • read product labels;
  • extract product characteristics;
  • categorize products;
  • estimate or suggest product attributes and typical shelf life;
  • identify duplicate catalog records;
  • identify potential catalog errors;
  • improve product images;
  • generate descriptions;
  • assist with shopping or inventory functions;
  • detect abuse or fraud; and
  • improve the Services.

Information submitted to these systems may be processed by Plenji or by the technology providers listed in section 5, acting on our behalf. We send these providers only the information needed for the requested function, such as a barcode or a product photo, not your name or account details.

Automated systems can make mistakes. Artificial-intelligence-generated or automated results should not be assumed to be accurate.

5. How we share information

We do not disclose personal information to third parties except as described in this Privacy Policy or with your direction or consent.

Service providers

We disclose information to companies that perform services on our behalf. They may process information only as necessary to perform services for Plenji. Our service providers currently include:

  • Google (Gemini), which identifies products from barcodes and from photos of packages we don't recognize yet;
  • Google Analytics, which measures visits to our public website (see section 7);
  • Stripe, which processes subscription payments;
  • U.S. Department of Agriculture FoodData Central, which receives product barcodes to look up product details; and
  • U.S. Census Bureau Geocoder, which receives household addresses to find stores near your home.

We also use providers of cloud hosting and data storage, email delivery, customer support, security and fraud prevention, analytics, and application monitoring. We will update this list when our main providers change.

Household members

If you participate in a shared Plenji household, information associated with that household is accessible to other members of the household. Depending on their role, household members may be able to view, add, edit, or delete household information. You should only invite people whom you intend to have access to your household information.

Services you choose to connect

If you direct Plenji to interact with another service, such as a retailer, shopping platform, authentication provider, or other third-party application, we may transmit information necessary to perform the action you requested. The third party's own privacy policy may govern its subsequent use of the information.

We may disclose information when we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to:

  • comply with applicable law or legal process;
  • respond to lawful requests from government authorities;
  • protect the rights or property of Plenji;
  • investigate fraud, abuse, or security incidents;
  • enforce our Terms of Service;
  • protect users or third parties from harm; or
  • establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.

Business transactions

If Plenji is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, restructuring, bankruptcy, sale of assets, or similar corporate transaction, information may be disclosed or transferred as part of that transaction. Any successor's handling of personal information will remain subject to applicable law.

Aggregated or de-identified information

We may disclose aggregated or de-identified information that does not reasonably identify an individual, for example, aggregate information concerning common household products, inventory trends, product usage, or application features. We may use and disclose properly de-identified information for research, analytics, product development, business planning, and other lawful purposes. We will not attempt to re-identify information that we maintain as de-identified except where permitted by law, including where necessary to determine whether our de-identification methods are effective.

6. Sale of personal information and targeted advertising

Plenji does not sell personal information. Plenji does not use or disclose personal information for targeted advertising based on a user's activities across unrelated businesses, websites, applications, or services.

If we ever begin selling personal information, processing it for targeted advertising, or engaging in another practice that requires additional disclosure, consent, or opt-out rights under applicable law, we will update this Privacy Policy first and provide the notices, choices, and controls required by applicable law, including a clear and conspicuous way to opt out. We will honor legally recognized opt-out preference signals where required by law. We will not apply materially different uses to previously collected personal information without first providing any notice or obtaining any consent that applicable law requires.

7. Cookies and similar technologies

Our website and applications may use cookies, local storage, software development kits, pixels, or similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, maintain security, prevent fraud, understand application usage, troubleshoot problems, measure performance, and improve the Services. Some technologies may be provided by service providers acting on our behalf. Where required by law, we will provide appropriate choices concerning nonessential cookies or similar technologies.

On your first visit to our website, we set a first-party cookie that remembers how you arrived: the campaign named in the link you followed, if any, the name of the website that referred you (not the page), and the first page you saw. It lasts 60 days. If you create an account, this is saved with your account and household so we can learn which of our efforts bring households that find Plenji useful. It is not shared with anyone else.

On our public website pages and the sign-in and sign-up pages, we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use the site. It sets its own cookies and records the pages you view, the website or campaign that brought you, your device and browser type, and your approximate location, which Google works out from your IP address. Google Analytics is not used once you are signed in, so it never sees your household, inventory, or shopping information. We have turned off Google's advertising features for this data. You can block it with your browser's settings or with Google's opt-out browser add-on.

We measure how Plenji is used through records we keep ourselves, such as when the app is opened, whether a scanned barcode was recognized, and when a checkout was started. These records are linked to your account and household. They do not include what you type, and we use them only to understand and improve the Services.

8. Information stored on your device

So that shopping works without a connection, the Plenji app keeps a copy of your household's shopping list, the products it can recognize by barcode, your most recent inventory, and any shopping changes and photos that haven't been sent yet on your device. This information is stored in the app's private storage.

Signing out of the app deletes this information from your device. Changes and photos that haven't reached Plenji yet are lost when you sign out, so the app warns you first.

9. Device permissions

Certain Plenji features ask for permission to use functions of your device:

  • your camera, to scan barcodes and photograph products;
  • your approximate location, to list your nearest store first when you start shopping (see section 10); and
  • notifications, if and when the app offers alerts or reminders.

Plenji receives device information or access only through permissions you grant. You can change permissions in your device settings; turning a permission off may prevent the related feature from working.

10. Location information

When you start a shopping trip, the app may ask to use your device's approximate location to list the nearest of your stores first. This location is used only on your device to sort your stores; it is not sent to Plenji or stored. You can decline, and the app will list your stores without it.

Plenji also uses the household address you enter to suggest nearby stores. To do this, the address is sent to the U.S. Census Bureau Geocoder, which returns its map coordinates. Plenji may also use a ZIP code, region, or other geographic information you provide for shopping, tax, or other location-dependent features.

11. Data retention

We retain information for different periods depending on the type of information and why it is needed. In general:

  • Account information is retained while your account remains active and for a reasonable period afterward as necessary for legal, security, fraud-prevention, accounting, backup, and dispute-resolution purposes.
  • Household inventory and shopping information is retained while the household remains active.
  • Waitlist email addresses are retained until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them, or until we stop sending waitlist email.
  • Deleted information may remain temporarily in backups, logs, or disaster-recovery systems until those systems are overwritten in the ordinary course.
  • Transaction and subscription records may be retained as necessary for accounting, tax, fraud-prevention, and legal purposes.
  • Records of how the Services are used are kept for about 13 months. When you delete your account, they are no longer linked to you; when a household is erased, its records are deleted.
  • Security and diagnostic records may be retained as reasonably necessary to detect, investigate, and prevent abuse or security incidents.
  • Customer-support communications may be retained as necessary to resolve issues, maintain records of interactions, and improve support.
  • Product catalog information that no longer identifies an individual may be retained indefinitely as part of the Plenji catalog.
  • Aggregated and de-identified information may be retained indefinitely where permitted by law.

When establishing retention periods, we consider the amount, nature, and sensitivity of the information; the purpose for which it was collected; legal requirements; security needs; and whether the information can be deleted, aggregated, or de-identified.

12. Account deletion

You can delete your account from Settings in the Plenji app or from your account page on plenji.com, or by contacting us using the information below.

Deleting your account deletes or de-identifies the personal information associated with your account, subject to the exceptions below. What happens to your household depends on who else belongs to it:

  • Other members remain. Your account and personal information are deleted. The household's inventory, shopping lists, and history stay with the other members, no matter who added them, and you are shown to them as a former member. If you are the household owner or manage its subscription, you choose another member to take over that role first.
  • You are the last member. The household is kept for 30 days in case you change your mind; email privacy@plenji.com or support@plenji.com during that time to restore it. After 30 days, the household's members, addresses, inventory, shopping lists, trips, purchases, preferences, and photos are permanently erased.

We may retain information when reasonably necessary to complete transactions; maintain financial or tax records; protect against fraud or abuse; enforce our agreements; maintain security; comply with legal obligations; establish or defend legal claims; or as otherwise permitted by law.

Deleting your account does not remove product information, catalog corrections, derived information, aggregated information, de-identified information, or product-focused images that have been incorporated into Plenji's shared product catalog and no longer identify you.

13. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live and subject to applicable law, you may have the right to:

  • confirm whether we process personal information about you;
  • access personal information we maintain about you;
  • obtain a portable copy of certain personal information;
  • correct inaccurate personal information;
  • request deletion of personal information;
  • obtain information about the categories of personal information we collect, use, or disclose, and the third parties to which it has been disclosed;
  • opt out of sales of personal information, targeted advertising, and certain profiling;
  • question the results of certain profiling and review the information used;
  • withdraw consent where processing is based on consent; and
  • appeal a decision concerning a privacy request.

Plenji may honor access, correction, and deletion requests even when applicable law does not require us to do so. Some rights are subject to exceptions and limitations.

Minnesota and other states

Residents of Minnesota may have these rights under the Minnesota Consumer Data Privacy Act when that law applies, and residents of other states may have similar rights under their state's consumer privacy law. To the extent an applicable state law provides rights or protections beyond those described here, Plenji will comply with them.

Plenji does not sell personal data, use personal data for targeted advertising, or use profiling to make decisions producing legal or similarly significant effects concerning users. If those practices change, Plenji will provide the disclosures, notices, consent mechanisms, and opt-out rights required by applicable law.

14. Making a privacy request

You can exercise your privacy rights by using the account and privacy controls in the Services, or by emailing privacy@plenji.com. Please describe your request in enough detail for us to understand and respond to it.

We may need to verify your identity before completing certain requests, and we will ask only for information reasonably necessary for verification. If you make a request on behalf of another person, we may require evidence that you are authorized to act on that person's behalf. We will respond within the period required by applicable law, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.

15. Appeals

If we deny a privacy request and applicable law provides a right to appeal, you may appeal by emailing privacy@plenji.com with "Privacy Appeal" in the subject line. Please identify the original request. We will review the appeal and respond as required by applicable law.

16. Security

We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, destruction, loss, alteration, or disclosure. These may include access controls, authentication controls, encryption where appropriate, network and infrastructure security, logging and monitoring, secure cloud infrastructure, access restrictions for staff and contractors, and incident-response procedures.

No method of transmitting or storing information is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for protecting your account credentials and should notify us if you believe your account has been compromised.

17. Children

Plenji accounts are intended for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to create a Plenji account.

Members of a household may enter information about household products used by children, but Plenji is not designed to collect personal information directly from children. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to Plenji, contact us at privacy@plenji.com and we will delete it.

18. Email and service communications

We may send communications concerning your account and the operation of the Services, such as account verification, password or sign-in notices, subscription and billing notices, security alerts, changes to the Services, and changes to our legal terms. These communications are necessary to operate the Services and generally cannot be opted out of while you keep an active account.

If we send promotional communications, you may unsubscribe using the instructions in the communication.

19. Push notifications

If you enable push notifications, Plenji may send notifications concerning inventory, shopping lists, expiration dates, household activity, account events, or other features. You can control push notifications in your device settings or in the app.

Plenji may contain links to or integrations with third-party websites, applications, retailers, shopping platforms, or other services. This Privacy Policy does not govern the privacy practices of independent third parties. You should review their privacy policies before providing information to them.

21. International use

Plenji is intended for users in the United States. If you access the Services from another country, your information may be processed and stored in the United States or other jurisdictions where Plenji or its service providers operate, whose privacy laws may differ from the laws where you live.

22. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as Plenji and applicable laws evolve. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page shows when it was most recently revised.

If we make a material change to how we collect, use, or disclose personal information, we will provide reasonable notice as required by applicable law. Where applicable law requires it, we will ask for your consent before applying materially different practices to previously collected personal information.
